Edinburgh University came into their first SSS league game with a very different team to that which finished the league last semester. With David Jenkins and Andrew Grieve leaving the club over the summer, first years Gavin McQuistin and Jayne Stirling joined Katie McGaan and Fraser Stockton.

In a very tight end with neither team adapting suitably to the very quick ice, it was McGaan who managed to find draw weight successfully first, and with her Glasgow counterpart unable to do the same, Edinburgh University stole the first point of the game.

However in the second end with Edinburgh continuing to struggle to control their weight Glasgow took full advantage of the hammer to take a two.  Things did not get better in the next two ends for Edinburgh, conceding a two and then a one. However there where signs of improvement with Stirling also now successfully finding draw weight.

However with Stockton clearing the front of house, and some build up play by Stirling, McQuistin played two fantastic hit and rolls to leave McGaan the chance to win the end, which she impressively converted to win a three for the Edinburgh side.

Despite Edinburgh moving to within one point of Glasgow they were unable to carry any momentum into the final two ends losing the match 8 – 4. Edinburgh will be disappointed at how long it took to get to grips with the ice however they will be very encouraged that once they did, they looked like a very good team.
