While the Edinburgh Varsity, the inter-university sporting competition between Edinburgh and Heriot Watt Universities, has been played for many years, curling only took its place in the event in 2010.  The curling competition is a one-off, mixed match between the best teams the universities have to offer, played at Murrayfield on the Varsity Day itself (normally the Wednesday in the same week as St Patrick's Day).

The trophy has so far been won twice by Heriot Watt University.
